For the purposes of this article, the word “Hacker” will be used to describe anyone who is seen doing “clever things with a computer” during the course of their respective movie/TV show.
Angela Bennett – The Net
Angela Bennett from 1995’s The Net is the OG female hacker. She de-buggs video games for a big San Francisco based company where no one has ever seen her face, leaving her especially vulnerable to identity theft when she gets a little to close to finding out something… dangerous…. Listen, the movie doesn’t make any sense but she hacks her way back to her normal life and everyone lives happily ever after, except the people who died trying to protect her. I would be proud to have her in my gang.
Cameron Howe – Halt and Catch Fire
Cam is technically a programer who almost invents the internet but I’m sure if she had to she could hack into a security mainframe. Also, look at her. Who wouldn’t want her around? Granted, she’s not a people person and is notoriously hard to work for, but there’s no denying she’s brilliant and loyal, almost to a fault.
Nine-Ball – Ocean’s Eight
We don’t really get to see the extent of Nine-Ball’s talents which is why I’m hoping for an Ocean’s 9 and 10, with a higher focus on computer crime, but in the meantime we can imagine her skills are on par with her snark and she is as smart as she is witty. So, welcome aboard, Leslie.
Cindy “Mac” Mackenzie – Veronica Mars
It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Mac in action but I know she hacked into her school’s permanent records at least once. And Veronica trusts her with her life which is good enough for me.
Ramsey – Fast and Furious Franchise (7 and 8 so far)
She invented God’s Eye and even without it, she has a direct line to the rest of the Fast crew so I mean, look. We need her.
